It’s been a while since we’ve had anything to read or say on singing sister duo Aly & AJ Michalka, but last night proved a wealth of tiny tidbits that amount to a big headline. Not only has their new official website been re-launched (great layout!) but it seems that the sisters have picked up a stalker and a design deal along the way.
The Associated Press, Columbia Dispatch, as well as many other small town newspapers reported as of yesterday that Rex Mettler, 42, was arrested for stalking the girls. Mettler is accused of stalking and making violent threats to the singing sisters and police investigators collected unspecified evidence from his home. He is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in Fairfield County Municipal Court.
And when you think of designing and sisters/siblings together, you normally think clothes, no? Well, in this case not so much. Instead of mimicking The Sprouse Twins or the Olsens and creating their own line of tween-teen clothing (which, btw, would be awesome), the Michalka sisters are designing and launching their own video game accessories this fall. Weird, right? What are those?
Well, for all of us non gamers, this means guitar controllers for right now. This is the first product that will launch in September and be available for the Wii and PS2 Versions of Guitar Hero.
“We wanted to do something that really speaks to the girls who are fans of these games,” said Aly, the older of the two sisters. “We love the idea of being able to bring them into our music by playing one of our guitars.”

VABN reader, Carrie, brought this article from ScreenDaily.com that has little tidbit (just a quick mention, really) regarding Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka’s movie Will, which according to the article has now been renamed, Rock On.
I can’t say just yet what I really think about the new title (or the title change for that matter) but what peaked my interest was what the article mentioned that the movie is being included in the “Cannes slate”…I’m not really sure if this means the movie will be screened (or judged) at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which start next week, May 14-25 (which also means Vanessa can’t even attend - if this mention means what I think it means). I re-read the article over and over, but it still is as clear as mud. Shouldn’t there be more article on this? Where do I find this “slate”?
I don’t think they meant next year’s festival though - since the movie is reportedly slated for release on Feb 2009 (I think at SxSW)…
Anyway - let’s talk about the title change for now…

Aly Michalka talks about her role as Charlotte in the movie Will. Who knew the David Bowie appearance was a secret? Certainly not me…oh and I guess Charlotte doesn’t have short hair?

If I didn’t know any better I would think this is Jessica Bourne Takes Robertson Blvd! It has all the elements: nameless operatives, running (ok, walking in high heels) through alleyway, car chase, backdoor exits, dodging shady characters left and right, foreign language speakers, a “cover-up”, a deal, money exchange, and near the end, a scene that will tug your heart. It’s quite long though but WOW; I don’t think it was a fun day for our two heroines.

Who other than Aly would stop to take a pic with a fan and then check if it came out? Gotta so love her for that! And her doggie, cutest thing. VABN pooches are adorable, I must say. And her hoodie, just rocks.
