it’s Zachary talking

Written by Chay on Thursday, 27 of March , 2008 at 2:15 pm

When the latest interview from Zac Efron was posted, it was done without anything else said. Well, except for the title which I thought hinted what I think about the interview.

Well, here’s my take on it - if you care to know…

First, print interviews are never 100% accurate. NEVER. Body language and the tone of the voice can make a difference on whether a statement is out of excitement or sarcasm. The writer’s view/perspective has to be taken into account as well – was s/he 100% in his/her game the day of the interview or thinking about the Superbowl? Did s/he want to be there or was s/he depending on this interview to keep his/her job? You see where I’m getting at?

But this is not about the writer. This is not really even about the interview, which if you ask me sounds just like every single Zac Efron interview.

we ask too much..

Written by Chay on Wednesday, 26 of March , 2008 at 11:36 am

No, we demand too much.

We demand so much from our celebrity idols. They have to have the perfect hair, skin, clothes, dogs, boyfriends, etc – you get the drift. Sometimes we voiced these demands so loud that they could hear them. And even though they insist they are their own person, they try to meet these demands.

This is unfair though – both to us, the fans/followers/worshippers, and to those we idolize/worship. Unfair because we are demanding perfection; and we should all know by now - perfection simply does not exist.

Our celebrity idols, in spite of the higher standard set upon them, shouldn’t have to explain their flaws or imperfections. We shouldn’t even be bothered by those in the first place. We all have them. We are just setting ourselves for disappointment if we let ourselves think otherwise. Why can’t we accept what was handed to us and work with what we got?

Hi there! It’s your friendly heartthrob expert Crystal. I know so presumptuous of me - but you know it’s true!

So it’s been awhile since my last entry in my widely popular series here in VABN. So I thought I be generous and write one up for you today. So, are you ready?

What to Expect When Dating a Heartthrob

You are going to need a restraining order issued to all the members of the male species (except for your heartthrob obviously - give one to your dad too, just in case)

Join the cast of Will at bandslam!

Written by crystal on Friday, 29 of February , 2008 at 7:41 am

First - an announcement!

I am officially changing my name to crys3tal, the 3 is silent. The reason being I’m awesome (you should know this by now) just like Sa5m.

And speaking of Sa5m, all you readers who live in the vicinity of Austin, Texas can now have more chances to be in the movie Will.

They are calling for more people to join them when they film the bandslam scene this coming Sunday at the University of Texas’ Hogg Auditorium, contact Beth Sepko Casting in advance at 472-5385, ext. 1, if you’re interested in becoming an extra.

If you just want to try and get a glimpse of the cast, well, you are in luck! The bandslam is not only an event in the movie but it is going to be one for everyone who shows up this Sunday as well. There will be food and prizes - gift certificates, MP3 players, signed DVDs, digital cameras and other electronic devices given away through raffles drawing. They are even giving away commemorative “Will” BANDLSAM t-shirts! How exciting is that?

So go join Vanessa Hudgens, Aly Michalka, Lisa Kudrow, and the rest of the cast - even if you are not ready for your close-up. And if you get to meet them, breathe, smile and then tell them we said “HI”.

Too bad you don’t get to see the liplocking scene though - they already filmed that (pictures of that here)

WTE: Gentleman one day; macho the next

Written by crystal on Monday, 14 of January , 2008 at 11:46 am

It’s been awhile since my last “What to Expect” article. I’m sure you missed me. But I’ve been so pre-occupied with my own heartthrob you see. And I heard through the grapevine that you feel you don’t need any tips from me anymore. Well, sweet pea, lest you forget, your heartthrob is of male persuasion – which basically means he is bound to do something that just calls for some hair-pulling on your part while at the same time makes you want to just shower him with kisses (or whatever else you want to do but I have young readers too). ;)

Anyway, this brings us to today’s topic…

Play Your Part: Cheetah Edition

Written by Jill-Renay on Monday, 31 of December , 2007 at 2:07 pm

So, just like Disney did with HSM2, Play Your Part has returned! And this time, you get to choose what the Cheetah Girls are bringing to India with them. Personally, I want Dorinda to bring CJ with her, but, obviously, that’s not going to happen. But, who knows, only you can choose.

They have the basic questions on there like what should each girl bring from NY to India and vice versa but the good part comes in the last last question: What Disney Channel Star’s Poster Should be in the Movie?

And there are three choices - The Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez, and Zac Efron. I’m gonna take a wild guess for everyone here and guess that if you Play Your Part, you’ll vote for Zac. I mean, why not, right? Hello - Heartthrob Status!

Just click right HERE and Play Your Part! You know you want to see Zac in the movie too ;)

Also, Disney just advertised the HSM2 Around the World Special. On January 18th, we’re going back to London! Check our Calendar for dets!

Starring Autumn Reeser as Sharpay….what?

Written by Jill-Renay on Wednesday, 26 of December , 2007 at 6:26 pm

Okay, so Disney really hit big on High School Musical, no? Like big, big. And not only did they cash in on the franchise with an ice show, stage tour, merchandise that’s pouring off the shelves, a Japanese kind of version, but MTV wants a part of it? Hell, why not?

MTV, not only known for bringing us the first music videos ever on television - we thank you ten fold - but also those addicting reality shows that you just can’t get enough of - The Hills, Laguna Beach, Real World, Making the Band, The Newlyweds - is now cashing in on the franchise as well. Seriously they are….and it’s starring not only Miss Taylor Townsend as the Sharpay-antagonist character, but also So You Think You Can Dance hottie, Neil Haskell. Shirtless scenes please!

But let’s get on to the good part, right? Right. So, we exchange the school for a mall, cast some Vanessa Hudgens & Zac Efron look-a-likes and cast them as the protagonist and a Gene Kelly-like janitor, throw in an actual Mrs. Montez who owns a music store, & Taylor Townsend as the girl who tries to take it all down, and I present to you: MTV’s Mall Musical! or, by MTV’s website, The American Mall.

Nina Dobrev, most known for her stint as Mia on Degrassi: The Next Generation, will play “Ally”, the Gabriella Montez-type role. Ally is the daughter of a music store owner, trying to save her mom’s store from going out of business.

Rob Hayes, hottie!, is not really well known, but damn, and this is between all you and me - tops Zac Efron ten times over! Have a look, I told ya, right? :P

And that’s not even the good part - MTV, I’m convinced, just wants to be Disney. Not only are they cloning High School Musical into Mall Musical, but they’re filming in Utah and they’re “borrowing” Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush for the production. Borden and Rosenbush are the producers of HSM. And just when you think I’m finished, I’m not.

The similarities between the two are uncanny. See, before Kenny Ortega, “God”, was a director he was a choreographer, right? Right. So, Borden and Rosenbush bring in Shawn Ku, who is what now? Yes! A Choreographer.

So what do we think? Will we watch it? I know, from my point of view, I liked Reeser’s character on the O.C., so I will tune in just for her. And who knows, it might surprise me.

A nose is just that - a nose

Written by Chay on Saturday, 15 of December , 2007 at 8:16 am

Ashley Tisdale
and it’s her nose not yours.

Two weeks after telling the world that she had a procedure done to fix a deviated septum (a septoplasty, I think it’s called), Ashley Tisdale emerged looking refreshed and relaxed.

I didn’t even really noticed much of a change until I saw a picture of her profile; and it’s mostly because I was kind of attached to her “bump”. The was part of the Tizzy, as far as I’m concern. Now, am I “disappointed” that she probably did have a rhinoplasty and septoplasty? No - not really. I mean, it doesn’t really matter to me. It’s none of my business anyway. And it shouldn’t be yours either.

I’ve read some comments about how some of her fans are “disappointed” because she underwent a cosmetic procedure. I understand the “uproar” over it; but I don’t understand why it’s a big deal to any of her fans - whether she did or not. Did she use your college fund to pay for it? Did she ruined the rest of your life? Did she kill your pet gold fish because of it? No? So get over it.

There’s really no sense in going all “up-in-arms” about it. So stop the name-calling!

Just be happy for Ashley - that she made it through the procedure (it is a major procedure - no joke!); and she’s looking good.

She is still the same Ashley we come to know and love. We’ll get use to seeing her without the bump and we’ll probably even forget it was there in the first place.

UPDATE: Click here to read more on what Ashley tells People Magazine, on what prompted her to undergo the procedure and shared an exclusive post-surgery picture. It also includes a statement from her doctor.

for publicity sake…

Written by Chay on Tuesday, 11 of December , 2007 at 11:05 am

ZanessaThe whole “it’s just for publicity” talk regarding Zanessa never goes away, huh? Now, we even have a wannabe emo-rockstar latching himself to the whole thing. And I’m struggling to understand why some people could say that it is.

I just don’t get it.

1 + 1 = 11

Written by crystal on Wednesday, 5 of December , 2007 at 3:33 pm

say whaat?

Let’s read this:

AP - Detroit. Residents of Miami, FL woke up to a white Christmas Monday, when they discovered 2 ft of snow awaiting them outside. Rodrigo Padilla, 32, was both ecstatic and irritated with the surprise. “I was just on my way out, to pick up costumes for Halloween when I realized I have to shovel myself out of the garage. Looking at my chicas making snow angels and a snowman made me forget all the work ahead of me.”

one one-thousandths…two one-thousandths…

Notice anything wrong with that article?

What’s that you say? Snow in Miami — you’re not buying that? What else? Hmmm.. “Christmas” before “Halloween”… AHA! Some things not adding up, right?

But I bet most of us did believe that story at first glance - probably saying to ourselves, ”self,  good thing we don’t live in Miami”.  We jumped into conclusion without really reading or thinking.  We believed it even if we know for a fact, Halloween is before Christmas and it hardly ever snow in Miami. Ever.

If we have done a “stop and think” maneuver, we would have trashed that article already. You see, we have the tools to make a logical conclusion - actually it’s singular - the brain.  I have it; I’m pretty sure you do too.

Speaking from experience, it doesn’t take a lot of time to use the brain, it’s painless and easy too.  So it might be worth the little time to use it.  Maybe we’ll even save some nerves, prevent some premature heart attacks and therefore, save lives.
