This is wrong, I shouldn’t try so hard to defend myself…
I didn’t mean to sound disrespectful or dismissive; I’m sorry I brought up Vanessa, I’m sorry if anyone here thought I was in any way trying to insinuate that Brenda shouldn’t have gotten this role, I’m sorry if I hurt anyone with my words – I really didn’t mean to.
I just.. I don’t know what to say. I’m hurt more than I should be; I just hate being misunderstood.
Can we please move on now? Just keep your thoughts to yourselves, and I’ll do the same.

First: read what Crystal posted as the synopsis of the movie.

if appearance is the only criterion to cast the role of Natalie, wouldn’t you say Brenda is the perfect pick?

who says vanessa was even considered for the role? believe it or not most roles DO still require auditions… as far as we know, vanessa didn’t even audition. it’s not like they just hand out roles, especially ones that call for talent in more than just acting. not that vanessa doesn’t have that talent, i’m not saying that at all, but chances are brenda auditioned for this role and got it based on that.
and it’s not a matter of bringing vanessa up just for the heck of it. those who mentioned her had good reasons for it, but nobody knows if vanessa even wanted this role. i personally would have loved to see either one of them in the movie, but am glad brenda’s getting her name out of the london tipton shadow of typecasting.

Well that should be fun. My school’s drama club just did the original West Side Story play and it was pretty amazing. The girl who played Maria had an incredible voice. Anyways, I probably won’t see this movie, seeing as I’m not too big on modernizing classics, but lots of luck to Brenda. Seems like 2009 is going to be former Disney stars’ year. Or in her case current.

amber, agree with you BUT since Vanessa once mentioned about wetside story being her favorite movie and how she would love to play natalie wood’s character, i think it’s Ok… it’s not like we just throw her name out of nowhere….

Wow, just wow.
I’m sorry, but is there a rule of not bringing up other people in a post that’s not dedicated to them? That’s rich… Excuse me if I wanted to express a thought.
I’ll say it again, I never intended to imply that Brenda doesn’t deserve the role, or that Vanessa would be better as whoever Brenda’s supposed to play. I’m not saying Vanessa should only do musicals, or that she should star in every teen flick, or that they should offer her all the good roles, or that she should be picked over everyone else, or that it’s the only movie out there for her. Just.. seriously, my comment was completely innocent, don’t make it out to be something it’s not; I’m a Brenda fan as much as I’m a Vanessa fan, and I would appreciate if you stopped it there. I wish Brenda the best, and I know she’ll do this role justice. Let’s drop it, okay?

How this get turned into a vanessa entry. It seems that some people feel the need to include vanessa in any topic. This is about brenda and how this could be a great opportunity for her, not a topic about how vanessa should have gotten the role. Honestly, brenda is a better actress than vanessa and this is a great role for brenda to shine and break away from disney. SO please guys, if you want to talk about vanessa or some other star, talk about it in some other topic.
