Dear Anne,

Love your article. I, too join the many “too old” fans of HSM and got hooked through watching the DVD of HSM2. Well, I must confess I was in the closet for a while afraid to admit that I love the movie, Zac and Vanessa, Ashley, Ryan…. I actually gush about them. Finally after seeing Vanessa in concert in Sacramento with nieces that I finally admit I’m hooked and there’s no turning back. So NOW I’M OUT AND can’t wait for Friday to come. Last December, my whole family spent Christmas at Disneyland and I got my fixed of HSM memorabilia and spent money on everything High School Musical oh and a few Tinkerbell stuff. I even got my niece from Hawaii with three kids hooked on it too, along with my 2 older sisters in their 50’s and 60’s. Go figure.

Tonight, I was watching DWTS and showed a clip of “Can I Have This Dance” with Zac and Vanessa and I was transfixed on the television. I don’t know what it is with this couple, I just tingle all over when I see them together. I think because their love, affection and devotion for each other is so transparent. They don’t need to tell us in words how they feel for each other. It just shows. I wish I had a boyfriend like Zac in high school. You know this may sound weird, but I pray about them each night before I go to bed, hoping that this relationship will last and last. So to all the “mature fans” of High School Musical, especially Zac and Vanessa, a toast to all and stand proud.

I love articles like these, especially after a weekend where I was reminded how out of the demographic of HSM I am. I seriously questioned my sanity as I was at an extended family get together and ventured into the room of my 16 year old cousin who had wall to wall pictures of Orlando Bloom and Zac Efron. Despite that though, it turns out that I was much more of a fan than her and she even told me that she felt ashamed a bit herself as kids in her high school are so over HSM and just think it’s a joke now. I wondered to myself if maybe I was crazy…

Then I came home and realized that it was less than a week to HSM3 where I’m going with other “older” fans and got excited again. Even if the younger demographic may be falling out of love with the HSM franchise, even if I’m the same age as the oldest member of the main cast, I’m still a proud fan of HSM, no matter what anyone else says.

Oh I’m proud to belong in this demographic of older fans. It’s one we can relate easily especially when you have teen daughters. Our family love to watch musicals and this movie interprets the complexities of life thru music which anybody can relate into…..good that we have this kind of movies unlike those trashy one’s full of gossips, infidelities and degradation…….

I was so glad to read this article. I am one of HSM’s “older” fans and have been wondering how to attend HSM3 by myself on opening day without looking completely ridiculous. You have renewed my faith in my own sanity. I kept wondering if I had lost all sense of reality as I keep going on different sites to read “the latest” concerning the actors, etc.

Nice to know that I there are other people out there that feel as I do…

I may be a lot younger and in the key demographic but that still made so much sense to me

I really can’t wait until i see this movie tommorow and i’ll be looking out for some older fans myself

Thanks again Anne for bringing this article to all our collective attentions. I’ve always wondered if this cast would be surprised by the amount of support and popularity this movie does have outside the target demographic (read over 20 with no kids, kinda like me).

Anyway, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m so freaking eager to see this movie that I’m going to a midnight showing. I won’t be alone though; my cousin and her boyfriend, also huge fans and outside the target demographic are coming, and my mom is too! One of the biggest things I’m looking forward to is actually checking out the crowd when I go watch this movie. Now I won’t be so surprised if I see some people like me out there. We do exist!

There’s just something about this franchise that has always struck a chord with me. I mean, I don’t even have an excuse to say that I started in the target demographic when they first came out. But the cast, the chemistry existing between them, and just the pure innocence and great message told appealed to me greatly. There’s enough of the not-so-good filling my day, so these movies are always my great escape from that.

What a great article…….you’re NEVER too old to enjoy a musical or a love story,HSM is both of these,and so much more !!!!!

I just LOVE it,it never fails to make me smile…can’t wait for tomorrow,I’ll be going to see HSM 3 with my 10 year old daughter….I have a feeling that I might just enjoy it more than her !!!
