Ashley Tisdale: a “Teen Witch”?

Wednesday, 16 Apr 2008

Ok…no bashing or I will turn you into mice, if Ashley won’t!

Speaking of mice (and one mouse in particular), looks like Ashley Tisdale is slowly leaving the safety net offered my Mickey. Variety is reporting that the Tizz is close to signing a first-look one-year deal with the producers of American Idol, FremantleMedia. This means that for a period of one year, FremantleMedia will be developing projects for the Tizz. Isn’t that just awesome!?

And if that’s not enough – United Artists is planning on giving Ashley the role of “Louise Miller” in a remake of the 1989 movie “Teen Witch”. *insert excitement sounding spells here :P

Looks like another exciting and busy year for our favorite BFF!

Congrats Ashley and good luck!

  1. LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – “High School Musical” star Ashley Tisdale is adding “producer” to her resume.

The 23-year-old actress is in negotiations for a one-year deal with FremantleMedia North America, the production company behind “American Idol.”

Tisdale will develop reality shows aimed at the younger demographic, and will stay behind the camera. She already has numerous endorsement deals, with such products as Degree Girl deodorant and Huckleberry Toys, and the FremantleMedia deal is another step in her transformation into a global brand.

Tisdale, who plays rich-girl Sharpay Evans in Disney Channel’s lucrative “High School Musical” franchise, is also in negotiations to star in a remake of “Teen Witch” for Tom Cruise’s United Artists company.

The 1989 original starred Robyn Lively as an unpopular high school teen who learns she’s descended from the witches of Salem and has inherited their powers. The movie was a fantasy musical. A writer will be sought to pen the update.

Tisdale recently wrapped production on her theatrical film debut, the Fox adventure comedy feature “They Came From Upstairs,” and is in preproduction on a third “High School Musical” movie, which is being prepped for the first time as a theatrical feature.

Her first feature, the direct-to-DVD comedy “Picture This,” comes out on July 22. She is also working on a second album

  2. Good luck, Ash!

I’m so proud of her. :)

  3. eeep! Yay for Ash!

  4. Good for Ashley. I hope the “Teen Witch” movie has a good script because the original was kind of a cult classic. I hope that Ashley does take on some more mature roles…even an indie film…in addition to some of the teen roles…similar to what Zac did. Teen comedy followed by a drama/coming of age story.

I’m kind of expecting some new Vanessa news now (outside her album) because Vanessa news seems to follow Ashley news. First we hear about Ashley’s movie, then Vanessa’s. Ashley gets an endorsement deal with Degree Girl and then Vanessa is rumored to have snagged another endorsement deal too.

  5. omg i am so excited. Teen witch is like my favorite movie. I absolutely loved it growing up and i still love it today. I cant believe that ashley might be staring in the remake. She is totally perfect for that role. I kinda hope the remake will still be set in 80’s cuz i would love to see ash in those awesome 80’s clothes. they probably wont though. uh im so excited. im going to go watch that movie now. If any of you havent seen it yet, i demand you watch it. you will love it.

  6. what? i didn’t know Picture This was going to DVD? did they not have enough money to finance this,. oh well, good luck ashley! =)

  9. TeenWitch? OMG Squee!

  10. That’s nice. I’m glad Ashley got the gig. I’m sure she’ll do a fine job and it seems like something she could easily pull off. But, I do agree with some that she should try to do more grown up stuff considering the fact she’s well into her 20s now.
