Wildcat Encounter!

Friday, 03 Aug 2007

Oh where do I start? How about by saying July 31st, 2007 was the best day of my life? I went to the NextFest Tour featuring Bianca Ryan, Corbin Bleu, Drake Bell, and Aly & AJ. The entire show was phenominal. It was very much geared towards a younger audience, but they interacted with the audience so well. For example, fans would scream the typical “I love you!” and every last performer responded to them. It was adorable.

But, honestly, enough about the show. (though I can gladly share more info if you want it) The real reason this goes down as the best day of my life thus far is the fact that I got to meet Corbin Bleu. Let the squeeing begin since I am still squeeing and grinning like an idiot two full days later. For starters, this 18-year-old, poofy haired, singer/dancer/actor is one of the nicest people ever. If you ever thought “surely he can’t be that nice,” think again.

We got taken “backstage.” It was more like a picnic area near the parked tour buses, and we stood to wait for Corbin. His dad was walking around and peeking in the doors, watching for his son to be ready. It was quite adorable. I finally saw “the boy with an excessive amount of hair,” as my best friend named him, and I began to freak out. I was near tears with excitement. There were 2 girls in front of me who had gotten backstage because their dad worked at the venue. They were obviously not the hugest Corbin fans, but it was cute to watch him be all friendly and nice.

I’m guessing in my excited/panicked/nervous/whatever feelings that were floating around while waiting, I shot Katie (bff/photographer) a very distraught look, so Corbin’s first words to me were “Are you gonna be okay?” accompanied by a small chuckle and, of course, the famous Corbin smile. He then pulled me into a hug, and I nearly died. After that, he saw the bag I was holding and asked “What do you have there?” and I proceeded to pull out the VanAshBreNique t-shirt Jill had purchased for me to give to him. I explained the definition, a little about this blog, and of course our love for him and our four favorite girls. I believe throughout the explination I heard “That’s so cool,” “You girls are so sweet,” “I love those girls,” “Thank you so much,” and “I love all of your support, really, it means so much.” There may have been a few others, but I don’t know for sure. As another form of thanking me, I got my second hug, which I will dedicate to everyone visiting here, the girls at FF, and especially Jill who paid for said shirt. He saw Katie flashing pictures off this whole time and then asked if we wanted a posed one. (Um, yah) He then signed my Chad/HSM2 notebook with “all my love.” I was so near tears at this point. I thanked him and got my final hug goodbye and left.

It was short, almost too short, but every second of it was worth it. He was so extremely genuine. His hugs felt like he was hugging a friend, not a crazy fan. He made eye contact with me the whole time, never looking for the way out. He let me lead the conversation with a look that showed he cared. Maybe I saw what I wanted to, but Katie agreed that he seemed as nice as I made him sound.

Overall, the night was the very definition of VanAshBreNique and I would give just about anything for the repeat. I have tons of pictures from the night so if you care to see concert pics feel free to check out my photobucket. You are welcome to post them, just please credit them to Sarah at VanAshBreNique.

so Vanashbrenique!
